Googlification

Hmm.. have fun and play.

1. I started using google, when I was no longer using Altavista.
2. In my study, google is a tool to look for new tools or ways to learn how to use new tools, because you can find many examples and tutorials on the internet and google allows me to find them easily.
3. Together with youtube, google means "Whatever you want, I've got. Whatever you need, that's me!", and for me personally. I like to listen to music tracks and songs on youtube or look for tutorials to teach myself things.
4. Once and a while, I wished I ruled the world.
5. All in all, google provides me an opportunity to look things up.

#6 Why?!

Aloha people,

It is sunday night/monday morning and I am posting something at 2:36 AM....
I had a decent weekend that was a mix of productivity, learning, beer, soccer and party.

It all started out nicely..
At friday I came home sat down behind my computer and digitalized the improved storydraft.
Afterwards I wanted to get going with Ximpel, since I had to make a <video> for the next monday. That <video> needed to contain some Ximpel as proof that you can use it. (That's what I thought the assignment was.) Anyway I went on changing things in the workshop example. Things worked out great everything did what I wanted. After I had done that I went to get groceries to make sure I get something to eat that day.

After dinner I let Ximpel be, since I managed to change the workshop the way I wanted. So I relaxed a bit drank some and went to bed at around 23:00.

Next day was saturday, going to tell this a bit different.
6:30 Wake up, hygiene stuff, pack soccer bag, breakfast, brush teeth.
7:15 Go to work till 10:30.
10:30 Chat with colleagues.
11:10 Go get money from the ATM.
11:20 Go to ENC'09
12:30 Beat the rival team with 5 - 2.
14:30 Watch the other team while enjoying a drink.
16:15 Get some beer!
19:30 Join some fellow ENC"09 that are going to KlaasVaak (a bar).
19:40 Get something from the snackbar before continuing drinking beer at KlaasVaak.
22:45 Decide that you go to lucky as well, with a cab.
23:45 Go home dress up and get in the cab.
00:30 Arrive at lucky and party!
04:30 Take a cab home.
05:00 Sleep!

Then the next day began.. it was a messy sunday.

At around 12:30 I woke up and had breakfast. I already had a plan from some other time of what I wanted to do with Ximpel... Yes, I had already decided that the sunday was going to be Ximpel and watching Eredivisie.

So.. Ximpel:

I went on making the code for what I wanted based on the code from the workshop. It took me about 4 hours to write it all out the first time.. Yes.. I did it multiple times... I tested it, but it didn't work anymore!
So I looked at the code and checked if there were any problems that I could find. I changed some things that were not needed and cleaned it up a bit also. Also transitioned into the basic package thing. Using the ximpelConfig.

But still: Could not load playlist/fast.xml WHY?!

I went to the ximpel homepage and read many things, checked many tutorials. Nothing.... nothing...noppes.. I think I spend over 10 hours working on that thing. This was a real letdown..

# 5 Vroom!

Good day readers,

Last week I was a bit concerned. I did not like the story we had for our interactive video and went to ask some people in the group how they felt about the story we had at the time, I also did a proposal for another perspective, but I think they felt that it would be a too radical change. I also agreed that it was a radical step, but we were not progressing very well in the group in my opinion.

Ximpel works nicely. The coding is not very hard, but I do still need to find out some things about it I think. Creating choices in the video is part of what I can do at the moment and to be honest I don't think you need a lot more than that.

We then decided we needed to discuss things and make a good solid plan for the interactive video, we all looked up some videos on youtube we could use and made youtube accounts to be able to share what we found. ('http://www.youtube.com/jellecreate' <-- my account)

Today I am feeling good. During lunch we had a good discussion with our 'We Create Identity' group about the Alien Invasion scenario. We finally changed our story-draft a bit to something that can become something instead of a story that hardly makes any sense. Don't get me wrong, the story was fun.. but in my opinion not a good story to work with for the interactive video.

So after creating a new concept we made sure everyone knows what he/she has to do.

For this weekend I will make a Ximpel video, I think I will do it about aliens... but I am not sure yet.

#4 Progress on We Create Identity

Some days, maybe weeks ago we began with our project for 'We Create Indentity'. The assignment was and still is to create and interactive video about a certain theme that we could pick or make up ourselves.

Our group that I will introduce later, picked the theme 'scenario'. That for example could be a distaster happening at a certain place at a certain time and then we had to show what would happen.
At first we were thinking about what happened at the Love Parade, where people were somehow in panic and caused a stampede that unfortunately caused some fatal injuries to people.

Now I will introduce my group:
Roman
Jelle G.
Fabienne
Inéz
Dmitri

But another part of the assignment was to entertain people. And to be honest the story of the Love Parade is still to fresh to entertain people with in my opinion. So I am glad that Roman came up with another idea: Alien Invasion.

That idea intriged me from the first moment! I liked it, you can easily make it as some sort of disaster and with some ingenuity and some creativity it could be very entertaining as well! So we started a brainstorm-session.

The brainstorm session resulted in a diagram that contained ideas of what could and should be in the interactive video. However we still did not really have a plan, we were thinking of filming our footage ourselves, but we weren't sure about it yet (I did already apply for the role as alien though.)
Then at some lecture we were told to write a 12-step story that is linked to our interactive video and we wrote a nice story which was unfortunately and unforseen by the other groupmembers changed by Roman while were in front of the class. The nice thing about it was, he is a good storyteller and got some laughs out of the audience. The bad thing was that the people that had to speak after Roman had no clue what to tell since he changed the entire story! Questions asked by the audience after that small presentation were also valid, because the story Roman told made no sense, though those questions would not have been asked if he had told the story we were supposed to be telling.

The next week we had another meeting as group, unfortunately Fabienne was ill but could still assist us through the computer using a chat program called Windows Live Messenger. At that meeting we were trying to divide roles and had to think of what we were going to say next monday (which is next monday at the time I am writing this). We figured we had to make some sort of trailer that would show the audience what our theme is and what direction we are heading with the interactive video. Not much actually happened there and me and Fabienne just figured that we could try and make a trailer. We then sat together with the two of us and made the basic storyline for the trailer and then Fabienne insisted on creating the entire trailer just by herself. (Which I will ask again if she is sure that she wants that.)

There is more to be told, but that will happen another day since it is late now and I need a beer!
